Re-gifting program
About the program
Our regifting program formally started in 2009. With this offering reBOOT tries to address a situation where a non-profit agency has identified the need for a computer for a client, but has no budget to obtain it. The non-profit agency acts as an intermediary between reBOOT and the end recipient to ensure the privacy and dignity of the individual. The agency applies for the computer on behalf of their client, and the computer is provided at no cost (this does not include delivery). A computer obtained through the regifting program has the same warranty as if it was obtained through our retail store (normally 90 days on hardware and 30 days on software).
Why aren’t all the computers free?
As reBOOT does not receive any funding, our sole income comes from our core business of refurbishing, providing and repairing computers. To help keeping reBOOT a financially viable organization, we prefer it if an agency can pay the $75 + tax (if applicable) for a basic computer system. However, we do recognize that an agency may not have any funds available for even this amount or this nature of client support.
If an agency pays for the computer on behalf of their client, the agency does not have to fill out the regifting application form.
To apply for a computer through the regifting program or to get more information, please e-mail us at info@rebootpeterborough.ca .
Please note – we do not accept applications directly from individuals.
reBOOT Peterborough reserves the right to decline an application if we feel that the applying agency does not provide us with sufficient information, or if the agency itself does not follow acceptable best practices of the non-profit community. reBOOT Peterborough is a division of COIN Inc. and is a non-religious organization. As such, only applications from secular organizations and secular sub-sets of faith-based organizations are accepted.
Co-op program
reBOOT Peterborough has been proud to take part in the highschool co-op program for more than 5 years. Every semester we have up to 4 (and at times more) students working at our East City shop.
We accept students from any school in the Peterborough area. The lower age limit is 14.
Currently we offer two positions:
Junior Technician
- Computer knowledge, hardware as well as software, is definitely an asset in this position. You will learn to build a computer from parts and to refurbish both laptop and desktop systems.
Admin Assistant
- While the need for in-depth computer knowledge is not as great for this position, it is certainly an asset to know your way around a computer.
Customer service and organizational skills are very important too.
If you want know more about the co-op positions, feel free to call or e-mail us. To enrol you have to contact your local co-op teacher.
Volunteer program
For School
reBOOT currently takes in volunteers from students who need community service hours (high school) or specific work experience (e.g. computer engineering at the college level). Please contact us directly to set up an interview. Please note that we may not have room for volunteers every week, this is especially true for March Break which is very popular for high school students.
Work experience
Individuals who wish to obtain work experience in the computer field, may apply for a volunteer position with reBOOT Peterborough. The process is pretty much like applying for an actual job: A resume and an interview is required. Only individuals with acceptable computer knowledge will be accepted. All applicants must pass an in-shop safety assessment. Applicants aged 18 and over must also provide a satisfactory police check (vulnerable groups).
Please e-mail us at info@rebootpeterborough.ca for more information.
Others
If you would like to volunteer with reBOOT, feel free to contact us. We accept applications for both technical and non-technical work. The application process is the same as for the ‘Volunteer program (work experience)’ above.
